LANDSCAPE DESIGN CONCEPT

The planting concept for this project was for an irregular swath of vegetation to flow through the hotel grounds as a relic of the original watercourse and to contrast the strong line of the vertical and horizontal architectural planes. This took the form of transplanted mature coconuts that continue on island planters through the extensive water body around which the hotel is orientated. Vibrantly coloured flowering trees line the boundaries, while within the hotel grounds colour is limited to lilies in the water gardens and small highlights in sub courtyards. The adjacent land reserved for future hotel development was transformed into an open lawn park focussed around an existing lagoon, with pavilions for outdoor functions and a golf fairway as an additional activity for guests. The wooden bridge connecting the jogging track was designed reminiscent of the old style bridges found through the water ways of Calcutta.
