LANDSCAPE DESIGN CONCEPT
Originally built in 1961, this major renovation transformed the iconic property into a 5 star hotel. Landscaping of the Central Courtyard aimed to break up the huge open space by separating it into sub-gardens and using vistas, openings and level changes to mimic the experience of moving through a traditional Chinese garden. Sub-gardens each have a strong character to make them easily identifiable when used for outdoor functions. Besides the new ‘resort’ style activities such as swimming pool and spa, planning also provided for traditional activities such as a stroll garden and intimate pavilions as meeting places to relax or drink tea.
